San Quentin - Alcatraz triathlon
Alcatraz triathlon is a unique near half ironman race created for those athletes who like adventure and who are looking for a challenging race the Alcatraz triathlon is a race between San Quentin maximum security prison and the famous and historical Alcatraz maximum security prison which was one of the most famous maximum security prisons on the U.S
Alcatraz is one of the most famous maximum security prisons of the U.S, where some of the most famous criminals were incarcerated like Al Capone and Alvin Karpis. Alcatraz prison was closed back in 1963 and now has become one of the greatest touristic and historical attractions in the San Francisco area.
This competition has been done since 1993 and competitors from all over the world have come to live the experience of this triathlon. Since 1993 thousands of people have been able to live the adventure to run a triathlon that includes historical places like Alcatraz prison and beautiful views such as that of the golden gate. Those who have run this half ironman triathlon will always remember the wonderful experience of taking such a great challenge and those who have won the competition will be remembered as extraordinary man.
Characteristics of the Alcatraz Race
The race consists on three different phases which are:
- A 16 mile run
- A challenging 3 mile swim form Fisherman’s Warf to the Alcatraz prison
- A scenic 25 miles cycling race
